My Trip
My visit to Turkey was unplanned and accidental, but nonetheless happened anyway. It all occurred as I was supposed to be travelling from New York to Tbilisi Georgia. Since there were no direct flights, I was to have a hour layover in Istanbul. However, my initial flight out of New York was delayed and by the time I landed, my flight to Tbilisi had already left. Therefore, I had two options: either wait an entire day in the airport until my new flight, or argue with the airline and demand some sort of compensation. I chose the latter.
Ultimately, due to my persuasive skills (or maybe out of fear from my appearance which was now resembling an enrage, sleep deprived orangutan), they offered me a free room in the airport's hotel. I just needed to pay the $30 for a Turkish visa. I complied and soon I was able to doze off for a few hours.
In total, I spent about 10 total minutes outside in Istanbul, a few hours inside a hotel (most of which were while I slept), and had one complimentary Turkish soup. I have made it a particular goal of mine to return. I vow, from this day forth, I will experience Turkey! I shall swim in it's Black Sea, I will watch it's hot air balloons rise in Cappadocia, and I will increase my chance of getting diabetes from feasting on its many ultra-sweet snacks! Some day!
